We’ve been busy investing in our coaches and keeping our standards high!

First up, we were lucky to have TMPRS host Fred Hodges to deliver a standardisation CPD day, helping our coaching team align, refresh, and sharpen their skills. ✅

Then, an exciting opportunity followed — two of our coaches travelled to YCL Shanghai for a special training session with the esteemed Beth ✨ They even had a go at playing Polocrosse! An inspiring experience filled with learning, sharing, and new ideas to bring back to our Pony Club community.

We’re proud to support continuous learning and can’t wait to see these skills in action!

Results are in for the Pony Club International Dressage Virtual Show 2025. This year, the two lower level classes enjoyed a new format known as the 'Training Challenge' involving two rounds separated by a few months and including a new awards category for most improved.

Update on Pony Club administration

Effective January 1st, Daisy Won has stepped down as Pony Club Secretary. Daisy has done wonderful work over the past two years to clean up the Club's admin and revive our relationships with riding centres throughout Hong Kong. Her contribution has been invaluable in guiding the Club's recovery post covid.

Daisy, please accept our heartfelt appreciation for your kindness, care and dedication.

Jolene Otremba has generously stepped up to volunteer her time and expertise in the Secretary role. She will be supported by Ivy Ip helping to lead on centre coordination and delivery of events.

Jolene and Ivy are HKPC alumni and seasoned volunteers. Please give them your support as we navigate the Club through this transition period.

Exciting times as the Children's Challenge Cup Kicks off!

The annual HKJC Children's Challenge Cup has officially begun with the first heat having taken place at the Lei Yue Mun Stables this month. Six teams from across all the riding schools in Hong Kong took part in the jumping event showcasing their impressive jumping skills.

Navigating jumps between 20cm to 50cm, the competition aims to highlight the rider's abilities and build confidence in both themselves and the sport. The atmosphere was electric as friends and family cheered these talented riders on. We can't wait to see all the incredible moments that will unfold as the competition goes on. Good luck to all our young competitors - let the games begin!

The Pony Club International Dressage Show 2024 is on!

This year, HKPC is hosting over 230 competitors from Pony Clubs in 11 countries on our padlet for the annual Pony Club International Dressage Show. All videos have been uploaded and are currently being scored by international judges. The results will be available on 19th October, 2024.

Hong Kong Pony Club is proudly represented in this show by 20 riders across 6 classes. If you have time to watch just one video, please check out the Class 5 Pas de Deux Dressage to Music entry submitted by Laura Watt and Georgia Thompson from BREC. It's absolutely lovely.

A huge heartfelt thank you goes out to Deborah Coulson for hosting a series of Practical Pony Care sessions for our Pony Club members who are working towards their C Test. Deborah's dedication and passion for equestrian care truly shone through providing an invaluable opportunity for our children to enhance their pony care skills.

Our young enthusiasts got to learn all the essentials of grooming, feeding and caring for their ponies. It was inspiring to see their confidence grow as they interacted with the ponies and applied new techniques under her guidance. We look forward to seeing Deborah back at the stables again soon when she visits Hong Kong next time!

Super Fun and Educational Mini Camps at LWSC

This Summer, Lo Wu Saddle Club hosted five mini Pony Club camps with 55 registrations. There were many first-time experiences for our members… first-time hacking, first-time barrel rides, first-time mounted games, first-time mucking out. The camps were super fun and educational! Everyone went home with big smile, equally important, ponies were happy with their big apples ^_^

Welcome back, our fearless Sierra !

Sierra was diagnosed with a rare synovial sarcoma cancer a year ago. She underwent two surgeries and many rounds of chemotherapy while doing radiotherapy. The treatment was long and very tough but Sierra made it through with her positive attitude and beautiful smiles ^_^

It is incredible seeing Sierra back to riding, laughing and having fun with her four-leg friends at paddocks and stables. What a brave, strong and beautiful young lady, you are amazing, Sierra !!

Letter from your District Commissioner

Dear members and parents,

Thank you all for your continued support and participation in Pony Club. We have a busy summer of activities ahead before concluding the current membership year in August. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our upcoming rallies, camps, training sessions and tests.

I would like to extend a very warm welcome to our new members. Current membership of the club stands at over 220. For those who are new to us and as a gentle reminder for those who already know us well, Hong Kong Pony Club is a voluntary organisation operating for more than 50 years in support of Pony Club's mission to provide children and young people with opportunities to develop a lifelong love of horses through fun, friendship, horsemanship and sport.

We try our best to make the most of limited resources available for equestrianism in Hong Kong through a programme of activities that encourages and supports members at various stages of their growth. Please remember that all Hong Kong Pony Club examiners, coaches and administrators are volunteers juggling other pressures and commitments too. Please respect our good will and behave with courtesy and consideration, including showing respect for our policies on timely membership renewals, event registrations, submission of required information and payments.

The Pony Club Efficiency Tests

The Pony Club training system in Hong Kong comprises of a series of Efficiency Tests from D through to D+, C, and C+. Covering essential aspects of riding and pony care, these tests offer a tried and proven pathway for preparing young people aged 8 - 14 years to enjoy a lifetime of fulfilment with horses. This year, we have introduced revised syllabuses to ensure that our learning in Hong Kong continues to align with evolving international expectations that places increasing emphasis on social responsibility and animal welfare.

Pony Club Efficiency Tests are designed to guide and give encouragement to children as they grow both physically and in competence and confidence over time. While every child is unique, in general children are expected to progress from D through to C+ level with regular practice and incremental learning reinforced by formal assessments every two years or so from ages 8 to 14. Because horsemanship is inherently practical, children cannot learn it from a book or by watching others, but they will develop skills and gain experience through regular practice over time.

The importance of Pony Care

All riding centres in Hong Kong are very busy and the work of looking after ponies and horses is the responsibility of professional adults. Even for children who are fortunate to attend regular riding lessons, it difficult to spend enough time with ponies learning to understand their behaviours and responding to their basic needs.

The primary purpose of Hong Kong Pony Club is to support Hong Kong's riding centres in creating more opportunities for children to learn about ponies and have fun while doing so. Please come to our activities with the expectation of spending time caring for ponies, including cleaning them and cleaning up after them. We do not offer study sessions to cram for Pony Club Efficiency Tests.

Schedule of future events

Many of you are keen to know what Pony Club has in store for the new membership year, starting in September. We have already posted some activities on our website and will endeavour to publicise more activities up to next Chinese New Year by the time everyone goes back to school. We receive a lot of queries regarding information that is already available on our website. I urge you to please read event information properly and do not register for events that you are not eligible for.

With thanks to LWSC and its competition team, HKPC joined riders from Australia, New Zealand, UK and South Africa to take part in the Pony Club International Virtual Jumping Show 2022. Our local jumping round went ahead at Lo Wu on Friday November 18th, a couple weeks behind schedule on account of the unexpected and unseasonable typhoon earlier in the month.

Thank you Sarah and Laurel and welcome Daisy!

HKPC owes a big thank you to Sarah Vandre who is stepping down as Pony Club Secretary. Sarah has served the Club with dedication and commitment throughout the ups and downs of the past few years.

In addition to mothering three outstanding Pony Club members, Sarah has trained, qualified and gained full-time employment as a professional teacher during her tenure with us. So she has been very busy and we deeply appreciate her contributions. Happily Sarah will remain on the Pony Club Committee.

We extend a very warm welcome Daisy Won who is our new Pony Club Secretary. Daisy is a long-time member of the Hong Kong equestrian community, having ridden and loved many a horse at Tuen Mun Public Riding School for years and years.

Daisy has an Accounting, Controls, Risk Management and Compliance background. She worked for more than 20 years in the finance industry before stepping down as Head of Compliance for a global asset management firm in 2017.

At the start of this membership year we also say good bye and thank you to Laurel Cooke who will soon be returning to the UK. Kerry Freeman will replace Laurel as the representative from CEEC on the HKPC Committee.

The HKJC Children's Challenge Cup is back!

The HKJC Children's Challenge Cup (CCC) show-jumping competition is back again. Due to ongoing social distancing rules it is taking place in an online format again this year. The HKPC team will be hosted by LWSC and CEEC for the first four rounds of the compeition. Riders must be aged between 8 and 12 years old and three jumping heights are available: 20cm, 30cm and 50cm.

Hong Kong Pony Club is very fortunate to be part of a fantastic network of alumni and other former instructors/ volunteers who are doing amazing things with horses around the world. We want to help keep this network alive and connected through our Get to Know... sessions.

Last Saturday, Kendall took time out of her busy schedule to chat over zoom about her experiences coming up through the public riding school, Pony Club and Junior Equestrian Team training system in Hong Kong and then transitioning to the UK, where she has established her own breeding, livery and competition yard.

It was fascinating to get a glimpse into Kendall's new life with a virtual tour of Kruger Equestrian. And it was especially amazing to see Sticky (aka Mountain Treasure) and Orange (aka Titanium Alloy) looking so well in their new home.

While Sticky, aged 20, is clearly enjoying semi-retirement, Orange continues to demonstrate how versatile our wonderful Hong Kong ex-racehorses can be. He has clearly not yet reached his limit show-jumping at 1.40m in the UK. We wish him and Kendall all the best for the future.

Can't wait to hear what the next chapter in this lovely Hong Kong racehorse love story will entail.

Thank you Alex for generously spending time on zoom from your quarantine room in Beijing last night to allow our members to 'Get to Know' you and some of your beautiful horses. Hong Kong in the 1990's was a special place to grow up. You are not alone in remembering those years very fondly.

It was especially lovely to hear you speak passionately about the wonderful animals that have carried you thus far in your career. Each and every one a very special individual. We wish you all the best for the future... and will continue following your progress with keen interest.

"Monkey" (Alex's mum's ex-rachorse from Hong Kong) and "Chico" (the stunning grey who made Alex's Olympic debut possible in 2008)

The kind and generous "Maggie" and the feisty "Pye" who gave Alex experience and confidence in his formative years over many iconic tracks, including Lexington, Hickstead, Samur and Badmington.

"Spike" - the champ who stepped up to bring home Bronze in Jakarta (Asian Games 2018) and "The Don" - an ironic name for a gentle soul who has represented Team China proudly at not one but two Olympics (Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2021).

Kenneth Cheng to compete at the 14th China National Games

We are excited to learn that Kenneth Cheng, an alumni of Hong Kong Pony Club, will be competing as an individual in show jumping at the upcoming 14th China National Games taking place in Shaanxi September 15th - 27th.

Kenneth back then at Pony Club and now.

TVB will be broadcasting the games locally so hopefully there will be some good coverage of Kenneth's jumping rounds. Don't miss out!

Tom Ho's Road to Tokyo

Thank you to Christian, Gary, Luci and Laurel for pulling off another awesome Summer Eventing camp for 24 seniors at Lowu Saddle Club. There was substantial rain over the three days (August 9 - 11) but we didn't let it stop us ... including hacking out towards Shenzhen and competing in an Arena Hunter Trail on the final morning.

Hope you've managed to catch some of the Tokyo Olympics Eventing because it's been incredible to see Alex Hua and Tom Ho representing us so proudly on the world stage.

Alex and Don Geniro extending beautifully into 3rd place after the dressage phase. Alex is riding in his third Olympic Games as part of the first team to represent China in Eventing at the Olympics..

After the dressage, Alex and Don Geniro were lying in third place with only 23.9 penalties. They completed a beautiful clear round on the cross-country course this morning, incurring 12 time faults which puts them in 18th place individually before the final phase tomorrow. Alex's strong performance has also helped put the China Eventing Team in 9th place moving forwards.

Tom and Tayberry. The first pair in history to represent Hong Kong in Eventing at the Olympics.

Tom and Tayberry (who at 20 years old is apparently the oldest horse in the competition) also jumped a lovely clear round cross-country this morning. Combining penalties incurred in the dressage phase and time faults from the cross-country they move forward in 46th place with 102.3 penalties to the final phase tomorrow. This is already an amazing achievement for the first pair ever to represent Hong Kong in Eventing at the Olympics. We are so proud!

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games are finally underway! Did you know that there are two former Hong Kong Pony Clubbers competing in Eventing?

Alex Hua Tian is riding for Team China and Thomas Heffernan Ho is riding as an individual for Hong Kong SAR. Both HKPC alums from the 90'/ 00's will be competing in Dressage, Cross-country and Show-jumping next Friday 30 July to Monday 2 August.

The results are in! Team Hong Kong has delivered a very respectable performance at the inaugural Pony Club International Alliance Virtual Dressage Show.

The competition was very tough with Team United Kingdom in particular setting a very high standard and riders from Team Australia, Team New Zealand and Team South Africa also achieving some very impressive test scores. Nonetheless, Team Hong Kong has done us proud.

Our selection committee is delighted to announce the Hong Kong Pony Club Team for the Pony Club International Alliance (PCIA) Virtual Dressage Show taking place for the first time next month.

We are very grateful for all the expressions of interest received from our members. We hope those who have not been selected this time do not lose heart and will join us in our Summer Dressage Festival instead... more information is available on the events page of our website.

PCIA is an affiliation of official Pony Clubs from around the world founded in 2005 to promote collaboration and international exchanges. Fantastic time had by all at Pony Club Easter Camp on April 5th and 6th. It was wonderful to finally be back at Tuen Mun Public Riding School! The kids had an amazing time vaulting, riding bareback (and backwards!), playing mounted games, painting the ponies, Easter egg hunting... and so much more. There is just so much fun to be had in this beautiful facility.

Big thank you also to Joelle, Jessica, Sing, Mo, Ivy, Vicky, Andrew, Shuen, Sarah, Ethan, Ashlyn and Oskar for instructing and volunteering.

USPC Virtual Equine Symposium and Convention starts today!

For those with existing ties to riding in the United States (or interest in developing those ties in future), you may be interested to know that the United States Pony Club 2021 Virtual Equine Symposium and Convention starts today. This event is usually held in person but this year, for the first time, it's going online.

Check out the attached itinerary, which offers something for everybody (in the US context). There's a mix of live and on-demand educational opportunities. Note all live sessions are on Eastern Standard Time, which is 13 hours behind Hong Kong.

Registration costs USD 95 and sessions will be available on-demand for six months.

Dialogue with Kama Godek

On the evening of December 28th (early morning US time) we had the privilege of meeting Kama Godek over zoom from her beautiful competition yard in Virginia USA.

Kama competes in show-jumping up to 5* FEI level. She is a highly respected trainer of show-jumping horses and riders—specialising in helping international customers to find and develop European horses. Many young riders will relate to her inspirational story... working her way up from Pony Club to fulfill her dreams of competing, riding and training at the highest level.

Thank you Kama for taking the time to speak with us, and also to the HKIS Equestrian Team (and especially Kama's sister, Megan, who works at HKIS) for making it possible.

Results of CCC 2020/21 - Round 2

HKJC has released the results of the second round of the Children's Challenge Cup competition.

Pony Club was represented by Amelie, Furla and Hazel, who jumped three lovely clear rounds at LWSC on October 16th. We received a total combined score of 340 points, putting us in 6th place.

Pony Club International Alliance Inaugural Virtual Quiz 2020

Hosted in an impressively professional way by the United Kingdom, the inaugural Pony Club International Virtual Quiz took place over zoom on Saturday 5th November at 22.00 GMT. Yes that's 6am Sunday morning our time!

Our team of exceedingly knowledgeable equestrians—comprising Sophie Bater, Gemma Duncan, Christina Dyson and Velvet Lung—did us proud by tackling some tricky questions on a range of challenging (and in some cases obscure) topics, ultimately coming in 4th place.

Pony Club International Alliance (PCIA) promotes Pony Club membership across the world. Member countries include the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, as well as of course Hong Kong SAR. We're so pleased to be able to offer our members insight and connections into the world of Pony Club through PCIA's international programmes and initiatives.

Impact of COVID-19 restrictions on our Holiday Events Schedule

We're so sorry that the latest COVID-19 wave seems to strike at precisely the wrong time for our Winter Holiday Events Schedule. What an unfortunate year 2020 continues to be!

Due to the closure of Hong Kong Jockey Club facilities, We're afraid the following events have been cancelled:

Junior Camp A @ TPRS on December 14th
Junior Camp B @ TPRS on December 21st
XC Experience session @ CEEC on December 22nd & 23rd

At this point the following events will also be postponed until (fingers crossed) social distancing restrictions are eased. At which point we will do our best to reschedule:

Conclusion of our 7-week Pony Care programme @ LWSC

A big thank you to Lowu Saddle Club (again) for hosting our 7-week Pony Care programme

Every Monday through October and November about a dozen members (and their little siblings) came along each Monday evening for grooming, tack cleaning and all sorts of other fun around the yard. We covered the content for several Pony Club Mini Achievement badges, including Colours & Markings, Pony Behaviour, Care of the Foot, Saddlery and lots more.

All the while keeping safe and maintaining our social distance.

We hope Lowu staff and riders enjoyed our chalk-based street art creation that we made at the end of the last session to say thank you. (Not to worry it will wash off.)

Special thanks to Liz Leven - our LWSC liaison - and also to India Gray, Audrey Lo and Eva Gunning for helping out and being so fantastic with the kids.

HKPC team competes in second heat of CCC 2020

Another big thank you to LWSC for hosting the Pony Club team in the second heat of the HKJC Childrens' Challenge Cup Competition 2020/21 on Friday 13th November.

This time, we fielded an amazing all-girl team comprising Amelie Millen (20 cm), Furla Ng (30 cm) and Hazel Levy (50 cm). Thanks girls for your lovely riding and good sportmanship. Looking forward to receiving our results in due course.

Results of CCC 2020/21 - Round 1

The results of the first round of this year's Children's Challenge Cup are in! The Pony Club team (comprising Anson, Jeffrey and Elliot) jumped three clear rounds at LWSC on October 16th and achieved a total combined score of 334 points, putting us in 5th place.

Pony Club team competes in first heat of CCC 2020

A fantastic team consisting of Anson Tam, Jeffrey Wong and Elliot Levy competed for Pony Club in the first heat of the Children's Challenge Cup 2020 at Lowu Saddle Club on the evening of Friday 16th October. Clear rounds were had by all! Big thank you to LWSC for hosting this event with their usual efficiency and style.

Super result for Furla in the Pony Club Art Competition 2020

Hobby Horse Virtual Show 2020: Results Announcement

Well our inaugral hobby horse show didn't quite generate the overwhelming level of enthusiasm we'd hoped for, but we still received some very entertaining entries. Please view our compilation for the highlights.

A big thank-you to all competitors for your sense of humour and support. Our judges had so much fun watching you and your hobby horses compete. They simply couldn't decide who did best, so everyone gets a 'special' rosette! Yay!

2020/21 Children's Challenge Cup Quiz: Ready to go!

HKPC is hosting an online Quiz to help kick-off this year's Children's Challenge Cup competition.

At least three competitors from each team must log in and submit their entries before the 25th of October. The best three individual scores will be combined to calculate an overall score for each team in this round.

Question & Answer Session with International Event Rider Tom Ho

Fantastic news from the Sopot CCI4*-S in Poland earlier this month when Hong Kong event rider (and former HKPC member) Thomas Heffernan Ho secured an Olympics Eventing Individual qualification on his horse Tayberry.

We are very grateful to HKJC for arranging a Q&A session on Monday 28th September, 2020 at which young riders in Hong Kong will have the opportunity to meet with Tom over zoom.

2020/21 Children's Challenge Cup Update

Due to social distancing restrictions the format of this year's CCC will be very different from usual. Starting in October 2020, competitors for each team will be invited to complete show-jumping rounds at their usual riding centres only. Videos of all entries will be uploaded to a shared platform before the 25th of each month for judging.

We are very grateful to Lowu Saddle Club and Clearwater Bay Equestrian Centre for hosting HKPC riders from their respective riding centres to compete for the HKPC team this year. If you ride regularly at either of these riding centres, please express interest to LWSC or CEEC to participate in the CCC and you may be allocated a place on the HKPC team!

We deeply regret that due to restrictions on riders moving between riding centres, we will not be able to invite riders who do not usually ride at either LWSC or CEEC to join our CCC team this year. We sincerely hope the situation will return to normal next season.

Committee Update

It was with surprise and sadness that we accepted the resignation of Deborah Coulson from the HKPC Committee at our last meeting on 10th August. Deborah will be leaving Hong Kong to return to the UK. We are so sorry to see her go, but at the same time delighted she has offered to continue to provide her support from afar. We are also grateful to Christian Allderidge who agreed to join our Committee in her place.

A few weeks ago we invited entries from our members to the British Pony Club's International Art Competition... On deeper reflection, we've now decided to run our own local art competition too!

All you need to do is email us a high quality image of your own original artwork on the theme of "Equestrian Hopes and Dreams" (whatever this theme means to you.) Entries must reach us before 20th June 2020. Our judges will select winners and runners-up in each age category.

There are some great prizes to be won!

We will automatically forward all local entries to the international art competition so that your talent can be recognised on the world stage!

Congratulations to all Pony Clubbers who competed in last weekend's LWSC Dressage Show. There were some impressive percentage scores achieved despite the adverse weather conditions. Well done!

At the invitation of LWSC, rosettes were awarded to top-scoring Pony Club members in the most popular classes. Results as follows:

Thank you to all volunteers who joined us at Beas River for the CCI1* on 14 December 2019. It was a glorious day and wonderful to see such beautiful horses and talented riders in action.

If you enjoyed this experience, please save the date on Saturday 14 March 2020 for the Eventing Horse of Year show. We are planning to run the inaugral HONG KONG PONY CLUB FUNATHLON in conjunction with the Hong Kong Equestrian Federation's One Day Event on that day. More details to follow...

Claudia Wrobel's Inter Pacific Experience

The 2019 Inter-Pacific Exchange between HK, USA, Cananda, Australia and NZ took place this summer in Hong Kong (you can read more about it on our Inter-Pacific Exchange page) with both main competitions being held at Beas River Equestrian Centre.

All the teams had a fantastic time and made plenty of new horsey friends from all round the world. Here is what Claudia has to say about the IPE.

The International Pacific Exchange was a wonderful experience full of fun and competitive spirit. Each day held a different activity that I looked forward too, whether it was the equine hospital visit, hacking, quizzes, gymkhanas or the dressage and show jumping competitions. Apart from the exciting riding and equine related activities, this competition stood out in another way too. Since it was held over 2 weeks, we all had the opportunity to do other activities such as visiting landmarks, boat trips and have our own time to explore or relax. This was the highlight of my experience because I hadn’t been to a show that spanned out for a long duration and allowed us to partake in planned outings as well as the competition itself. It encouraged us to get to know the competitors, build friendships, learn from one another, experience the culture of the host country, compete and do what we love: ride!

FEI CCI1 STAR Eventing Show at BREC on 14 December 2019

Join us at the CCI1* Hong Kong 2019!

For the first time since 2011, Hong Kong will be hosting an international-level event at Beas River Equestrian Centre on 13 – 14 December 2019 (Fri – Sat). The Hong Kong Equestrian Federation is looking for 20 extra volunteers to help out as fence photographers for the cross-country jumping phase.

This is a great opportunity to get close to the action and be part of Hong Kong’s most exciting equestrian event of the year (so far!)

When? Saturday 14^th December 12 pm onwards (exact timing to be confirmed)

Where? Beas River Country Club, Kam Tsin Road, New Territories, Hong Kong

What will you need?

Bring your own smart phone with video-recording function and spare battery/ power bank
Be on time
Proudly wear your Hong Kong Pony Club shirt/ hoodie (We will give you one if you don’t have one)
No need for previous experience; the event organisers will provide clear instructions and support

Resignation of District Commissioner Tara Delaney

Dear members,

It is with great sadness that I have stepped down as District Commissioner of the Hong Kong Pony Club. My family and I have relocated back to the UK after more than 20 years of living in Hong Kong, and nearly 9 years of me running the HKPC.

The past 9 years as District Commissioner have been a very rewarding experience, definitely with ups and downs but the ups far outweigh the downs. When I started, I had not had much involvement with the HKPC other than helping out at a few camps at Tuen Mun. As a child I was an avid member of the Pony Club but that was quite a long time ago! So it was a bit of a learning curve but I have enjoyed nearly every minute of it.

My favourite part of running the HKPC was the smiles and laughter that were always an integral part of the camps. To see children spending quality time with the ponies and loving every minute of it was very rewarding and well worth all the time and effort that went into running the camps. Many a time there would be kids with naughty ponies who ran off with them, bucked etc, yet at the end of camp they would still be saying "..... is the best pony in the world" all that naughtiness seemingly forgotten.

The rallies were also one of my favourite parts as kids in Hong Kong rarely get the opportunity to spend precious time grooming, tacking up, cuddling the ponies unless they are lucky enough to have a livery. Time spent in the stable with the pony is as important as time spent on the pony. That is where bonds are truly formed.

I had the pleasure of working with some wonderful people during my tenure and made some lasting friendships. My Vice DC Mandy Farrar was one of those and together we somehow managed to pull off the 2019 Inter-Pacific Exchange where we hosted 30 people for 2 weeks. What an experience that was, so much fun and so many memories made. It was a wonderful way to end our time with the HKPC. Mandy has been involved most of her life, first as a member growing up in HK (she was on the IPE team many years ago!) then as a parent when her daughter was a member, then as Secretary and finally as Vice DC and my right hand woman!

Running the HKCP has kept me involved in horses longer than I would otherwise have been, which is a very positive thing. I retired from competitive riding about 7 years ago when my horse retired, so running the Pony Club was a great way to stay involved with the Equestrian scene. It was also a privilege to get to watch the kids progress through the years and to be involved in their progress. Many kids who started in the Pony Club have gone on to be fantastic riders some of whom have been selected for the Hong Kong teams and some who have left Hong Kong and continued to thrive in their new environments.

I would like to say a big thank you to all those fantastic parents who would come and help at camps and other events, without you we can't do anything. The Pony Club is a volunteer organisation so without your help there would be no Pony Club. It's been great fun meeting you all and surviving each camp with a sense of relief that all kids are safe and a huge sense of achievement that all the kids had a fantastic time.

The Pony Club has has to change a lot over the last 9 years, and had to adapt to new demands, costs and restrictions but we have managed to keep going and will I hope continue to do so in the coming years. With new leadership new possibilities will open up, the Pony Club is in good hands and I am looking forward to following it's adventures over the coming years.

I wish good luck to the incoming District Commissioner, Elise McAuley - the HKPC is in very good hands - and to all the kids and parents who have supported the HKCP and will continue to do so, long may it thrive.

We are delighted to announce the election of a new Pony Club committee at our Annual General Meeting on 4th November 2019. Our new committee members represent a nice balance of seasoned equestrian professionals, Pony Club veterans and parents of current and upcoming Pony Clubbers with connections to all riding centres in Hong Kong.

Following Tara Delaney’s resignation as District Commissioner, the new committee has appointed an Executive team comprising of HKPC District Commissioner, HKPC Chief Instructor and HKPC Secretary. We would like to express our gratitude to Tara for her many years of service at the head of HKPC and wish her family all the best for the future back in the U.K.

Annabelle Dyson's Inter Pacific Experience

During the Hong Kong IPE 2019, we gained the opportunity to meet other horse-lovers from different pony clubs across the world. Over the 2 weeks that international pony clubbers from Canada, the USA, Australia and New Zealand stayed in HK, we indulged in cultural activities from eating dim sum, going out on a junk, visiting Stanley market and temple street, going to Sai Wan beach and rock pools. We spent a lot of time making new friends and we were able to learn about life abroad and the differences in all of our pony clubs.

Alongside the cultural activities, we visited various riding schools around HK to give them a taster of what the equestrian world is like out in Hong Kong, before taking part in the Bauhinia Cup dressage challenged in mixed teams and the finale - the Nation’s Cup whereby the USA emerged victorious.

Being able to experience life as a tourist in my home country was so much fun, but undoubtedly the biggest highlight of this experience was getting to know so many amazing people/passionate riders, allowing me to make close friendships with people around the globe.

Welcome to the New Season

Welcome back everyone, we hope you have had a good summer and didn't suffer too much from the destruction caused by Typhoon Mangkhut. All the riding stables managed to get back to normal operations very quickly and thankfully no horses were harmed in the storm.

TMPRS RENOVATIONS

We are starting the new season with quite a lot of changes. The biggest physical change is that because of the renovation work underway at Tuen Mun Public Riding School where we are based, we will have no physical office until about October 2019.

CAMPS

Also due to the renovations, our camps will have to be a little different this year as during the week there can be no riding between 10am and 5pm. In order for Tuen Mun to agree to let us still run our camps we have also had to bring the maximum numbers for each camp down to 12. We have put together a plan so that we can at least go forward with the camps and have added an extra one to the calendar to make up for the loss of numbers.

We are also moving to a new membership management system and with it a new website, if there is anything you would like to see on the website that is not there we would love to hear from you. Please be patient with us while we get it all up and running, I'm sure there will be the odd glitch!

Due to the TMPRS Renovations we are not going to be able to offer as many events as normal this season. We have therefore decided to bring down the membership cost this year.

We are also now using PayPal for membership payments and events. This will make our accounting much simpler and also a much better user experience for you we hope. You do not need a PayPal account to pay, there is the option to pay either with your account or to use a credit card.

INTER-PACIFIC EXCHANGE

In July 2019 the HKPC will be hosting the Inter-Pacific Exchange, an international cultural and competitive exchange that is held every two years between Hong Kong, the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The 2017 IPE was hosted by the USA and our team spent 2 weeks in North and South Carolina. Next year it will be our turn to host again.

We are starting to put together a long list of riders for the team who need to be between 17 and 25yrs old and competent jumping 100cm on a borrowed horse. For more information please see our IPE page.

We will also be looking for volunteers to help while the teams are here. We will be running two main competitions but also arranging various other activities at different riding schools.

RALLIES

We are hoping to get some Stable Management rallies and Efficiency Tests organised as soon as we can get dates from our instructors, we will likely be holding rallies just at CEEC and LWSC this year as the HKJC is bringing in new charges that would mean we have to put up the cost of the Rallies, something we do not want to do.
